Welcome to Avondale Christian Kindergarten
Where we believe that every child is a gift created by God and we aspire to encourage and support them to be secure in the knowledge of who God has made them to be. We aim to teach and nurture children within a stimulating, safe, caring and inclusive environment where the early childhood curriculum Te Whaariki is underpinned by our Christian values and beliefs.
We recognise that children’s cognitive, social, cultural, physical, emotional and spiritual development is holistically woven together. Our planned programme provides opportunities for children to develop in all these areas, both individually and as a group.
Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour and to be mindful and considerate of others and the environment.
We believe in actively listening to the many voices and perspectives of children and in so doing we seek to support the development of knowledge, skills and dispositions that will empower them for life’s journey. We aspire to instil in each child a love for learning and a sense of curiosity and wonder of the world around them.
We value the differing cultural backgrounds and values that families and whanau bring and celebrate the diversity and richness that this contributes to our centre. Partnership with parents and whanau is fostered as we strive to build strong links between home and kindergarten.
We are committed to the bicultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand and all children will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of Maori language, culture and practices. Updated 21.11.16
As part of the Reformed Church of Avondale we have the following Mission Statement:
To express the love of Jesus Christ to all children in all aspects of this ministry, in that we believe that all children are created in the image of God and were created to know Him and love Him.
To teach and nurture children in a loving, caring, stimulating, fun, and safe environment, seeking their growth in all areas of live, both physical and spiritual.
To provide teachers who are committed to the Christian faith, good role models for the children and parents, and who are able to teach from a distinctively Christian approach to learning while utilising the Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whaariki.
To provide children with the opportunity to grow as confident learners and communicators through play, active exploration, social interaction, and a balance of structured and non-structured experiences, all within a biblical worldview, providing a solid basis for the Christian faith and enabling them to serve God in the world.
To highly value the partnership between families/whanau and the kindergarten by encouraging participation in the life of the kindergarten.
