At Avondale Christian Kindergarten we have a team of wonderful teachers who are all experienced and fully qualified. We are passionate about teaching and are all committed to providing the best possible education for your child.
Kia ora, my name is Sonja. I have five teenage children who keep me busy! My children’s preschool years was the beginning of my love for early childhood. For the past decade I have had the privilege of teaching in several kindergartens, and I continue to grow in my passion for teaching preschoolers.
I believe that all children are created by God to be unique. At the heart of my teaching lies a desire to really know and understand children so I can use their interests and strengths to extend learning. I believe in giving children time and space to learn, both individually and as part of a group.
I look forward to getting to know your child and to being part of their learning journey.
Sonja - (Bachelor of Teaching ECE) Head Teacher
Ann - Manager
Hi, my name is Ann, I am loving my role as Manager here at Avondale Christian Kindergarten. The teachers are so dedicated to their job in getting to know and support each child that comes into our centre. Even though I have only been Manager here for a year and a half, my time here started 28 years ago when my five sons attended kindergarten here. I have come from a previous administration role in foster care for high needs teenagers.
In this previous role I saw a lot of of parents struggling to look after their children and the impact on the young people. I decided that if I changed jobs it would be to a role in which I can support parents in bringing up their preschoolers, as I believe this is the time where we can give children a good foundation for their future life.
I look forward to walking with you on this journey of life with preschoolers.
Yongjuan (Rosa) - Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE)
Ni hao, my name is Yongjuan, but you will know me as Rosa. I got this English name more than twenty years ago when I first started learning English in China. Before I came to New Zealand in 2001, I had been an English teacher in a university for twelve years.
I gained my qualifications in primary and early childhood education in New Zealand. I have been a teacher all my life and have worked with people of various ages from adults to primary school pupils. They have all added colour and meaning in my experience.
I started to work as an early childhood teacher in 2008. I have learned so much from the children, which enriches much of my life. I enjoy working with children and it has been a pleasure to be part of their lives, witnessing their growth and development.
Namaste, my name is Karyn. I emigrated from India with my husband and two children to make New Zealand our home. I completed my Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education at the University of Auckland and have been teaching for nearly 25 years.
Building reciprocal relationships with children and their families based on trust is important to me. I am passionate about literacy and maths from an early age, and believe that children form a good foundation for learning through meaningful play.
